Garage burglary spate in Dronfield

Police are reminding residents to be security conscious after a series of garage burglaries in the Dronfield area.

The break-ins have targeted garage blocks which are not attached to houses and items stolen include tools and bicycles.

The most recent incident occurred overnight between 6pm on Wednesday, October 24 and 2.30pm Thursday, October 25 at a block of garages on Gomersal Lane, Dronfield.

Several garages were broken into but nothing was stolen.

Police are asking residents to ensure all garages and outbuildings are securely locked at all times and to report any suspicious activity to police.

Garage owners should consider the following advice to prevent burglaries:

Ensure garages are secure and fit a good quality lock;

Keep items stored inside garages, such as tools or bikes, locked and as secure as possible;

Consider investing in an alarm;

Keep the door well maintained and in good condition;

Make sure items of value stored in garages or outbuildings are insured and take photographs of them;

Security mark your valuables, this deters thieves and can assist in identifying items if they are stolen.

Anyone with information about the break-ins should call Derbyshire police on 101, the non emergency number, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

For further crime prevention advice contact your local Safer Neighbourhood policing team by calling 101 or through the website www.derbyshire.police.uk.
