Free child car seat belt checks are being offered at supermarkets later this week as part of a campaign launched by Derbyshire County Council.
Seat belts will be looked at by experts over an eight-day period beginning this Thursday.
Coun Dean Collins, the council’s deputy cabinet member for jobs, economy and transport, urged parents: “Please spare a few minutes to get your child car seats checked out.
“Seats must be fitted properly to offer maximum protection – it’s vital that motorists who travel with youngsters understand the importance of choosing the right seat and fitting it correctly.”
The law says that passengers under the age of 12 must use some form of child car seat unless they are 1.35m tall or above.
The type of seat a child needs depends on how much he or she weighs.
The campaign will begin at the Matlock Sainsbury’s from 1.30pm on Thursday, followed by Dronfield Sainsbury’s on Friday from 10am.
It will move on to Tesco at Clowne on Friday afternoon from 1.30pm, and then next Wednesday will continue in Brimington and Staveley.
