Former addict stole heaters
Law and order
A BOLSOVER woman committed three shop raids in four days after release from prison left her broke, a court heard.
Jessica Hodgkinson stole three electric heaters, worth a total of £45, from the Factory Shop in Bolsover on January 13 and sold them for £15.
She went back there the following day and stole a £79 electric fire, Chesterfield magistrates were told.
Then, on January 17, she helped herself to meat from Fulton Foods, in Market Place, Bolsover.
Rosemary Lake, prosecuting, said the heater thefts were captured on CCTV. The electric fire was recovered.
Hodgkinson, 28, of Smithson Avenue, Bolsover, admitted three offences of theft.
Sentence was adjourned until March 5 for probation service reports and she was granted bail on condition she did not enter the Factory Shop.
“She was released from prison just before Christmas and she wasn’t due to receive benefit until February,” said Kevin Tomlinson, for Hodgkinson.
“She stole because she had no money. She says the offences had nothing to do with drugs. She has been testing negative for drugs since she came out of prison.”
Hodgkinson, a former heroin addict, told the court: “This year I have been clean.”
She has three children living with her mother and recently gave birth to her fourth child.
