Five injured in car crash
FIREFIGHTERS and ambulance paramedics came to the rescue of five injured youngsters after they were involved in a car crash.
An 18 year-old driver, from Bakewell, was travelling in a Vauxhall Corsa which lost control on The Duke’s Drive, along the A6 road, at Ashford-in-the-Water, about 9.30pm, on Monday, January 30.
The vehicle is believed to have collided with a gate post or a wall, according to the emergency services.
A Derbyshire fire service spokesman said: “One of the casualties had got out of the vehicle and four were trapped inside.
“Firefighters used hydraulic cutting gear to remove the roof and helped ambulance paramedics to extricate four casualties.”
Police said an 18 year-old back-seat passenger from Bakewell suffered serious internal and head injuries and was taken to Sheffield’s Northern General Hospital and a front seat passenger suffered leg and facial injuries.
Four ambulances were requested and all of the casualties were taken to hospital for checks and treatment.
Police told how the A6 road was temporarily blocked during the incident before Bakewell and Buxton firefighters made the area safe by about 10.50pm.
