Dream performance of midsummer play

Netherthorpe School pupils impressed crowds at Bolsover Castle with a stunning performance of a scene from A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Students acted out the scene from the comedy, written by William Shakespeare, which portrays the events surrounding the marriage of the Duke of Athens, Theseus and the Queen of the Amazons, Hippolyta.

They performed the play inside the Riding School building at Bolsover Castle, which was built in the twelfth century, on Monday.

The pupils had planned on acting the scene outside but were forced to go indoors because of the rain and wind.

Deputy headteacher Chris Townsend, who directed the scene, praised the pupils for the performance.

He added: "Our students showed good improvisational skills in performing the scene indoors, rather than outdoors as rehearsed."
