Weather forecasters are warning of “disruptive” snow in Derbyshire.

The Met Office has issued a yellow ‘be alert’ warning for the county – with forecasters expecting the snow to be “heavy and persistent” in places.

A Met Office spokesman said: “The public should be aware of the likelihood of a spell of difficult and disruptive wintry weather, with impacts on travel and, perhaps, on power supplies.

“The public is advised to take extra care.”

The alert is valid between 9pm tonight (Thursday) and 6pm on Saturday.

The Met Office said it was looking increasingly likely that the warning will be upgraded to an amber ‘be prepared’ alert.
