DERBYSHIRE fire service is to launch an investigation today, Friday, February 8, to establish the cause of a garage blaze which erupted last night.

The fire ripped through a garage at a semi-detached home on East Avenue, Stanfree, about 11.40pm, on Thursday, February 7.

A Derbyshire fire service spokesman said: “The incident was reported by a neighbour and there was concern for any people inside but on arrival the occupant had been safely taken outside by the neighbour.”

Firefighters from Bolsover and Staveley attended the blaze and used a main jet and a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire. They ventilated the property and made it safe by about 1am, this morning, Friday, February 8.

Police and an ambulance attended the scene and the electricity board is also expected to be carrying out tests to help establish any possible cause. Anyone with any information can also call Derbyshire Constabulary on 101.

Chesterfield and Staveley firefighters were also called out to a kitchen blaze at a bungalow on Princess Street, Brimington, Chesterfield, about 5.15pm, on Thursday, February 7.

Crews armed with breathing apparatus extinguished the fire, ventilated the property and made it safe within half-an-hour.

Firefighters also fitted smoke alarms at the property to provide an early warning system in the event of any future blaze.
