DERBYSHIRE: Avoid bogus callers warning
BOGUS callers posing as water board officials have targeted residents.
Severn Trent is reminding householders of the many safeguards available to help people protect themselves after a number of recent incidents in the region.
Simon Mullan, customer relations manager at Severn Trent said: “Bogus callers, or distraction burglars, often claim to be from a utility company to gain access to a home and steal from it. These criminals are cunning and often intimidating, and deliberately target the elderly or vulnerable.
“As our water bills are currently being issued, we are concerned that bogus callers are targeting customers using our company name.”
Customers concerned about bogus callers can contact Severn Trent to set up a password.
If a Severn Trent employee genuinely does need access to their home, he or she will know the chosen word.
Residents can also call the firm on 0845 604 1655 to check callers’ identity.
