Deceased motorcyclist has been identified after Shirland crash

The motorcyclist who died after he was involved in a road crash at Shirland has been formally identified.

Police revealed the 21-year-old has been identified as Anthony Church, of Alfreton.

Mr Church had been travelling along the A61 Chesterfield Road, at Shirland, about 6.30pm, on Tuesday, January 14, when he lost control and was involved in a collision with a blue Vauxhall Astra car coming in the opposite direction.

He had been travelling towards Chesterfield on a red Honda motorcycle.

A Derbyshire Constabulary spokesman said: “The rider came off in the collision and the bike travelled a long distance along the road before coming to rest.

“The rider received significant injuries due to the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene.”

The road was closed and re-opened just after midnight, about 12,30am, on Wednesday.

Derbyshire Constabulary is appealing for witnesses to call 101.
