VALENTINE’S Day is just around the corner and one Derbyshire couple are getting ready for the most romantic day of their lives – and a chance to recreate an epic love story.

Mike Harrison and Sarah Bairstow, from Beech Grove in South Normanton, want to revive the tale of Robin Hood and Maid Marian and say “I do” in their natural surroundings.

Approval from Nottinghamshire County Council means the lovebirds will be the first people to marry in Sherwood Forest National Nature Reserve.

Sarah, 34, a nursery nurse, has always loved the romantic tale of the man who stole from the rich to give to the poor and has fond memories of family trips to Sherwood Forest.

She said: “Ever since I was a child it has been my dream to get married at Sherwood Forest but I never imagined it could actually be arranged.

“It really will be a fairytale for us.”

The event at the purported home of the legendary Robin Hood on May 12 will be the first of its kind, after the visitor centre got a licence for civil weddings.

Another dozen have already been booked to follow them.

Mike, 41, a warehouse supervisor, added: “We are so pleased we are able to tie the knot at Sherwood Forest.

“Sarah loves the Robin Hood story and it is great to have such a different setting for a wedding.

“I have joked to some friends that they will need to dress up in Robin Hood costumes – but in all seriousness it will be traditional wedding outfits for us all – we are looking forward to what will be a magical day.”
