COUNCILLOR ON THEFT CHARGES
A BUXTON county councillor has appeared in court charged with stealing £5,000 from Derbyshire County Council.
Cllr Robin Baldry, who represents the Buxton West ward, appeared at North East Derbyshire and Dales Magistrates Court in Chesterfield yesterday (Wednesday) when he spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth.
He is accused of stealing £2,877.05 belonging to Derbyshire County Council between May 1 2005 and October 31 2010; stealing £1,179.66 from the county council between the same dates and stealing £1,000 from the authority on April 15, 2010. The total amount alleged to have been stolen is £5,056.71.
The first allegation relates to mileage claims; the second allegation relates to subsistence claims; and the third allegation relates to funds allocated in relation to a golf tournament.
No pleas were entered to the charges and Cllr Baldry, 69, was remanded on unconditional bail.
Cllr Baldry, of Terrace Road, Buxton, is a former chairman of Derbyshire County Council and previously sat on High Peak Borough Council. He was Mayor of the High Peak in 2008/9.
The case has been adjourned until April 16 when it will be committed to the Crown Court.
