Closure shock for store
Shop workers face an uncertain future after electrical giant Dixons announced the closure of its Chesterfield store.
The town centre branch on Packers Row is to shut before the end of June as part of a nationwide programme to axe over 100 stores.
Eight members of staff are in talks with bosses at Dixons Group Plc which could see them moved to posts in other stores owned by the company, which include Currys, PC World and The Link.
Bosses say falling sales and tougher competition from out-of-town stores has forced the decision.
Ruth Adams, a spokeswoman for the company, said: "The Chesterfield branch is one of the stores that will be closing and it is expected to shut before the end of June.
"But job losses are not an automatic result of the closure — we are talking with staff at the moment and hopefully all of them will be able to be moved to some of the many other stores owned by the group.
"The decision is part of a nationwide programme of closures that includes many of the smaller, High Street stores which are just no longer profitable in the changing market place."
