CHESTERFIELD: Police want to speak to men over scam

editorial image

Police have released a CCTV image of two men they want to speak to in connection with a ‘ringing the changes’ scam at a pub in Chesterfield.

Between 9.30pm and 10pm on Thursday, January 24, two men entered Spa Lane Vaults on St Mary’s Gate.

One of the men asked to change £200 worth of £20 notes into £10 notes and then attempted to confuse the member of staff by asking for a different denomination.

The men left and the member of staff later discovered the till was £90 short.

A police spokesman said: “Shop staff or anyone handling large amounts of money for work are reminded to be vigilant to these types of scams and report anything suspicious to police.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Derbyshire police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
