CHESTERFIELD: Hospital to postpone routine operations after snowfall
breaking news
CHESTERFIELD Royal Hospital has announced that is having to prioritise patient treatment and postpone routine operations in the coming days to cope with difficulties following the snowfall, today, Monday, January 21.
The hospital has revealed that is having to make tough decisions to make sure acutely ill patients get the care and treatment they need.
A hospital spokesman said: “We’re under pressure because of the numbers of patients who need admitting to hospital for emergency medical care.
“So it looks as though we’ll have to postpone some routine operations in the coming days.
“We appreciate this will be hugely disappointing for those waiting for surgery but we hope people will understand the clinical priority.”
Those whose operations will not take place will receive telephone calls.
The hospital said its emergency department is running well and the site is accessible and the surrounding roads are clear.
However, a hospital spokesman explained that if anyone is considering visiting the Accident and Emergency ward they are being urged to ask themselves if it is absolutely necessary given the weather conditions and whether they could get treatment elsewhere such as at a chemist or GP.
Those whose operations will not take place will receive telephone calls.
