CHESTERFIELD: Fairplay hosts conference to help young people

TEENAGERS and youth-workers from all over the country met at the Chesterfield Fairplay centre to attend an event which aims to explore issues faced by young people.
Delegates representing 32 youth groups met for a conference on at the centre on March 5 and 6.
Discussion focused on the best way to help young people access education and career opportuntities and support their emotional development.
Youth delegates at the conference attended workshops on dance and drama, how to access social media and contributed to the discussion on how youth-groups can work best with schools and colleges.
Kathryn Pogue, 19, from Halifax said: “I found the conference really inspiring and we are going to take home some very valuable lessons.”
The conference was opened by Heather Fawbert, Chief Executive of Fairplay, a Chesterfield Charity which supports young people up to the age of 25, and Dan White, manager of the Donut Creative Arts Studios, based on Springbank Road, Chesterfield.
Heather Fawbert said: “We have people from as far afield as Devon and Cornwall and the north east. It is vitally important that we provide the best service that we possibly can for young people.”
