Chesterfield DVD store not acquired by supermarket

A SUPERMARKET has confirmed that it is not taking over Chesterfield’s Blockbuster stores.

DVD rental Blockbuster, which has shops on Derby Road and Newbold Road in the town, has gone into administration.

Supermarket chain Morrisons has acquired 49 of the stores nationally to use for its Morrisons M brand of local convenience stores.

But a spokesman confirmed Chesterfield’s two sites were not among those on the list.

Deloitte have been appointed as administrators for Blockbusters.

It became the third major High Street casualty this year after HMV and Jessops - which both have branches in Chesterfield - also went into administration.
