Chance to tap into historical resource

Derbyshire County Council's libraries have a wealth of resources to help budding historians track down the past.

In order to showcase all the resources on offer, there will be six open days held at libraries across the county throughout the year.

The open days will feature family history experts who will be on hand to give advice on hunting down the past, tracing family trees and much more.

There will be demonstrations on using the internet as a research tool with help on using websites such as Ancestry and a 19th century newspapers database, both of which are free to use for Derbyshire library members.

There will also be displays of old photographs, newspapers and other interesting pieces of local history.

Dates planned (between 10am and 4pm) include:

Friday, July 17: Bakewell library, Granby Road.

Thursday, September 10: Brimington library, Church Street.

Wednesday, November 18: Whitwell library, Portland Street.
