East Midlands businesses can learn more about Intellectual Property copyright to help protect and enhance their products and services during an event at the Nottingham Conference Centre.

The free breakfast event, on February 8, is being organised by the Institute of Directors East Midlands and the Intellectual Property Office, which is the official Government body responsible for granting IP rights in the United Kingdom.

Ron Lynch, IoD East Midlands Regional Director, said: ”This is another event in our current series to provide free support and advice to regional companies.

“Intellectual Property can be a complex area but with the right knowledge it can be used to create, innovate and protect products and services.”

”This informative and interactive event will allow attendees to check out subjects such as trade marks and copyright and how getting it right can be of great benefit to business.”

A recent survey showed that 74per cent of businesses were unsure who owned the copyright in their website when it had been created by a third party.

The event will include a case study from Leicestershire entrepreneur David Keay, CEO of Dynamic Extractions, who is also a member of the IoD Leicestershire Committee and there will be an address by the IPO’s Business Outreach and Education Manager Dave Hopkins.

David Keay worked for a FTSE PLC for almost 20 years gaining experience in sales, manufacturing and marketing with businesses with international reach within the global laboratory and process industries.

Having been a main board director for six years he decided with his knowledge and experience to create his own technology company, becoming the largest shareholder in Dynamic Extractions, formerly a Brunel University spin out company. Over the last six years he has taken this virtual company to the forefront of the liquid chromatography market with a presence in Europe and North America.

To register to attend this event at the Nottingham Conference Centre, Newton Building, Nottingham Trent University, call the IoD East Midlands on (0115) 848 6190 or visit www.iod.com/eastmidlands.
