A SCHOOLBOY has been reunited with the rescue crew who saved him after a dramatic cycling accident.
Thomas Dean, 11, was riding the Monsall Trail in Bakewell with his family when he hit a fence and was thrown off, landing several metres down a steep embankment.
Paramedics from the Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance worked with several emergency services in the rescue.
After Thomas, who had a broken collarbone, was retrieved he was flown to Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
He has now fully recovered and his family thanked DLRAA paramedics in a visit to the service’s airbase.
Dad Craig said they were signing up as fundraising volunteers to give something back.
He added: “I certainly didn’t ever expect to need the help of the air ambulance but we are so grateful that they and all the other services were available to help Thomas.”
The family are also raising awareness of the importance of wearing helmets while cycling, as Thomas’ was ‘completely battered to pieces’ in the accident.
