A Bakewell mum is taking on a charity challenge to raise money for the hospice which cared for her daughter in the last few months of her life.
Cheryl Air has signed up for the 8km Endurer Dash – a gruelling course devised by former Royal Commandoes which is packed full of obstacles testing stamina, strength, agility and determination.
Cheryl’s second daughter Polly was born with a rare mitochondrial condition and lost her fight at just 14-months-old, spending her last days at Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospital near Sheffield.
Thirty-six-year-old Cheryl said: “Bluebell Wood is an amazing place.
“I just can’t thank staff enough for what the hospice did for us – they created so many priceless memories for my family.
“This is my way of giving something back and I’m so grateful for the support I have received by everyone in helping me take on this challenge.”
Rowsley-based Woodlands Fitness have been helping Cheryl prepare for next month’s challenge which will include trudging through swamps, scaling a 7ft wall and crawling commando-style through mud.
Heidi Megaughin, acting chief executive of Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, said: “This is a tremendous challenge that Cheryl is taking on and we hope everyone will get behind her and support her.
“Cheryl has experienced first-hand the care that we offer at Bluebell Wood and it’s really heart-warming to see her wanting to help other families who need our help.”
