Baby joy for tragic couple
A FAMILY left devastated when their two boys were killed in a horror crash finally have something to smile about following the birth of their new baby boy.
Nearly two years after brothers Joshua (7) and Leon Taylor (4) died in a car crash on Buttermilk Lane at Shuttlewood, their parents Pam Tut and David Taylor are celebrating the birth of new son Lewis James.
Proud mum Pam (34) said that little Lewis has given them a break from thinking about the tragedy of losing their beloved boys.
"He has given us a life, otherwise we would still be sat just looking at four walls," she said.
"He has given us something to live for and though we never thought we would be able to love like that again, instantly with him it was like, how can you not?"
Joshua and Leon died in September 2007 when the car they were travelling in was hit by a Ford Sierra, travelling at more than 100mph, that was racing with a motorcycle ridden by 18-year-old Joshua Knights, from Shuttlewood.
The three men in the Sierra were killed in the collision, while Knights was jailed for six-and-a-half-years for causing five deaths by dangerous driving and was banned from driving for ten years – later reduced to six.
Pam, who was driving the other car, and her nephew Luke Taylor, a passenger, both suffered serious leg injuries in the crash.
She said that Lewis — who was named with Joshua and Leon's middle names —reminds her of his older brothers who she said would have doted on him.
"When he was born he looked just like Leon, but with his big eyes and long eyelashes, he has Josh's eyes," said Pam admitting the family is wrapping him up in cotton wool.
Pam and David (38), of Woodthorpe Road, Shuttlewood, want Lewis — who was born on July 1, weighing 6lb 3oz —to know all about his big brothers and have already started telling him all about them.
"I took him up to the grave and showed him his brothers," said Pam. "I want him to know from the beginning and it's getting him used to going somewhere like a graveyard.
"The house is full of photos and I know he doesn't know anything yet, but I walk him round saying 'that's Josh', 'that's Leon'."
Pam said that although she will be haunted for the rest of her life by the events of the day Josh and Leon died, having Lewis will help bring back some normality and give them a reason to celebrate events such as Christmas and birthdays again.
She added: "It brings back a lot of memories of the other two, good ones and some sad ones now they are not here.
"It just makes it easier having Lewis, because I look at him and I think that there's both of them in him. It's like looking at both of them again."
