TOGETHER we’ve cracked it and forged over 100 apprenticeships in 100 days during a top campaign with business gurus and forward-thinking employers.

The Derbyshire Times’ 100in100 appeal with Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce, the National Apprenticeship Service and Destination Chesterfield successfully encouraged organisations to create a bedrock of work and training.

It convinced 58 companies and organisations across the region to create and develop 106 apprenticeship places and build a platform for careers and commercial progress.

DT editor Nicola Megson said: “We hope the backing of such fine companies and groups will kick-start a mutually beneficial culture of apprenticeships and shape a better future.

“So many businesses have recognised the benefits of investing in on-the-job training to keep up to speed and to fill skill gaps while providing careers to apprentices.”

Those who got the ball rolling with apprenticeship pledges after the campaign launch in March included Mitchell’s Accountants, Foxwood Diesel, Arvato, Franke Sissons, Trent Barton buses and GT News. Many of these have successful histories with apprentices.

The DNCC also rallied companies to secure over 30 pledges in the last three weeks of the campaign which concluded this month.

DNCC chief executive George Cowcher said: “I hope we can build on this by getting even more to think about apprenticeships as a way of addressing skills, training and workforce needs. I’d like to express thanks to the businesses who signed up.”

NAS divisional director Karen Woodward said: “This has been a fantastic campaign to begin a shift towards apprenticeships.”

CCS Media pushed the campaign over the finish line with four pledges and CCS MD Terry Betts said continuous growth and success is reliant on training. Dom Stevens of marketing team Destination Chesterfield said “For Chesterfield to continue to grow we need to develop, nurture and retain talent.”

Those interested in apprenticeships are urged to call DNCC on (01246) 207207 and the NAS on 08000 150 600.
