Ambulance partnership celebrated
Paramedics and Red Cross workers celebrated a successful first year of working in partnership at an event in Matlock.
East Midlands Ambulance Service visited Red Cross House in Matlock Green to renew a Memorandum of Understanding, which ensures Red Cross staff and volunteers can provide immediate help to paramedics when required.
The ambulance service said the agreement, and the offroad vehicles the Red Cross can provide, had proved vital during flooding and heavy snow in the Dales.
Paramedic Stephen Holt said: "The conventional ambulances were unable to drive through thick snow in some of the more rural parts of Derbyshire."
"We don't know what would have happened if the Red Cross hadn't been there to help," he added.
Red Cross operations director Catherine Stuart-Jervis said she was proud of partnership, and the help it offers vulnerable people during emergencies.
