£75,000 bus stop revamp
Nearly 400 Derbyshire bus shelters will be fitted with state-of-the-art LED lighting in a bid to save money as well as slashing energy bills and carbon emissions.
Derbyshire County Council is funding the £75,000 scheme through its carbon reduction initiatives fund.
By replacing existing fluorescent tubes with LED’s – which produce the same level of light with less energy – the authority expects to save £117,995 over five years.
The council also expects to reduce its carbon footprint by 50 tonnes of CO2 each year.
Cllr John Allsop, cabinet member for recycling and technology, said: “The new LED lighting will mean that the same level of lighting can be achieved using less energy, reducing both energy bills and carbon emissions.”
