It was a warm day at Bakewell cattle market on Monday, July 28, with conditions perfect for harvesting.
There were 578 cattle and 1,774 sheep on parade with buyers to match.
The store cattle department attracted another entry of 263 head. Both steers and heifers topped at £1,180 and there was plenty of interest in the selection of breeding cattle which peaked at £1,440 for cows and calves.
Finished cattle numbers were modest at 89, but trade was distinctly better with a top call of 245p/kg and the steer and heifer average looking much healthier at 186.7p.
There were 82 OTM cattle sold on a solid trade with a top figure of 163p/kg and a maximum gross of £1,203.
The Bakewell calf section continues to attract substantial numbers with an outstanding entry of 154 head. Bulls sold to £350 and heifers £310. There were 1,346 lambs which reached a top figure of 191p/kg with the overall average settling at 161.6p for an increasingly mixed sample.
More than 400 cull sheep sold to £132 per head for both ewes and rams with the average returned at £66.61.
