TWO Buxton schools are to benefit after a Liverpool-based charity donated three defibrillators.
After the tragic death of 16-year-old pupil Ben Obiora in April, St Thomas More School contacted the Oliver King Foundation, which was set up in memory of 12-year-old Oliver King, who died of Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome.
The Foundation donated three defibrillators, one each for St Thomas More School and St Anne’s Primary School, Buxton, and one for the sports hall, which is regularly used by the local community in the evenings.
The defibrillators were presented by Oliver’s dad Mark, who was able to talk to the students about his son and his fight for defibrillators to be placed in every school in the country.
Ben’s mum, Paula McNicholas, attended the assembly and was able to present the foundation with £1325 raised in Ben’s name through numerous events.
A further £325 will also be sent to CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young).
