With regard to the article in the Derbyshire Times of October 9 which I felt demonising Tesco forpurchasing the Somerset House Pub in Calow, I would just like to balance the argument a little.
Tesco cannot purchase property unless there is someone who is very keen to sell to them. Why, then, is no blame directed to the company who wish to offload Somerset House?
Nobody can force them to sell, not even Tesco. A Tesco Express will create around 30 jobs, full time and part time, and so it is not all bad. The article paints it as a total disaster, but it will also bring more choice and, after all, no-one is forced to shop at Tesco.
