LETTER: Labour had chance to stop cuts

I was pleased to see that Chesterfield’s MP is against the proposed cuts to tax credits. There has been some doubt over his attitude to such issues after he failed to vote against the Conservative Party’s Welfare Bill earlier this year.

One thing he didn’t mention in his comments to you is that Lib Dem members of the House of Lords proposed a vote that would have killed off the cuts to tax credits for good, but because Labour did not support this vote the cuts have only been delayed.

If Labour is really opposed to the Conservatives’ cuts to tax credits they should have voted to stop them when they had the chance.
