LETTER: I see anti-social behaviour on a daily basis

With regards to your post on Facebook about anti-social behaviour. '¨I am not really one for posting or commenting about anything on Facebook but after reading your latest article about the issue I felt enough is enough. '¨Firstly a little insight into my position on the matter, I work at Future Walk which is the post office building across the road from the old court house and am there seven-and-a-half hours a day, five days a week so pretty much see or hear about most of what is going on across the road. If I was to sit here and write about the things I've seen I would probably be here quite a while, but I've pretty much seen it all.

So for the police to say they do not see alot of anti-social behaviour in the town centre is farcical. I put that down to the police simply not being there, which brings me to my second issue regarding the photograph of the two officers walking down the hill from the war memorial towards Future Walk. I don’t know if the photograph was taken by you guys or someone else but I do believe, I may be wrong, that photograph was taken the other day when the mayor was having a walk about.

I personally saw the two officers pictured walking around the area and also heard people who work in the same building as me say that the groups who congregate had been moved on by the officers prior to the mayor’s arrival.
I have never seen or heard of them being dispersed by police and think I have only seen police patrols on a handful of occasions in which nothing happened. So for police to be pictured ‘patrolling’ in the area depicts something that I believe just doesn’t happen.

I personally believe this problem will get worse, I have seen it escalate over a number of years and do believe it will have a detrimental effect on our town.

Regards and PS: good work on keeping the issue in the public eye and hopefully one day the issue will be resolved.
