LETTER: Huge thanks for Harvest donations to food bank

editorial image

Please could we say a HUGE thankyou to all the schools, churches, organisations and individuals who contributed their harvest produce to the Chesterfield Food Bank.

Our new warehouse has taken in more than two tonnes of tinned and packaged food to feed those local people who find themselves in crisis. Volunteers have been steadily working over the last couple of weeks to process the food so that our three distribution sites have the best in-date food for our clients.

Unfortunately we are still having referrals from all the agencies and charities despite the news that we have the lowest unemployment rate ever.

Debt, low wages, illness, sanctions on benefits are just some of the effects of this causing people to have to use our services and with further cuts to local services there could be more.

Once again without the generosity of the Chesterfield people we couldn’t help in times of austerity.

Thank you so much!
