A COMMUNITY group in Whaley Bridge is riding on the crest of a wave after raising £520 for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).

Members of Whaley Bridge Ladies Guild select a different local charity each year to support, mainly through the proceeds of two coffee mornings which are held annually at the Mechanics Institute. This year’s chosen charity was the RNLI.

“Although we don’t have the seaside near us, we do have a RNLI group in Whaley Bridge,” said Maureen Roberts, secretary of Whaley Bridge Ladies Guild.

“I think over the years we have raised well over £15,000 for local good causes.”

The Guild meets on the first Friday of every month at Whaley Bridge Uniting Church, on Buxton Road, from 2pm.

New members are always welcome. Contact Jean Bellis on 01663 733657.
