Labour wins Chesterfield by-election

LABOUR candidate Tom Murphy has won the St Helen’s ward by-election.

Mr Murphy will represent the ward on Chesterfield Borough Council after getting 579 votes in the by-election which was triggered following the death of Labour Cllr Trevor Reynolds who previously held the seat.

Tony Rogers, for the Liberal Democrat Party, came second with 412 votes, Keith Lomas, for the UK Independence Party, got 205 votes, Kate Barker, for the Green Party, got 205 votes and Shelley Dale, for the Conservative Party, came last with just 23 votes.
