Youngsters have been cooking up a treat in the kitchen using Fairtrade ingredients.
Children from Tansley Primary School took part in a Fairtrade bake–off, while pupils at All Saints Junior School, in Matlock, made Fairtrade pancakes for Shrove Tuesday.
The youngsters at St Giles and St Joseph’s primary schools in Matlock also got their pinnies on when the Matlock Fairtrade group visited them to teach them about Fairtrade Fortnight.
Speaking about the bake–off in Tansley, Barbara Daniels, from the Fairtrade group, said: “We baked six different recipes.
“The whole school was involved and the finished masterpieces were judged by some parents who are on the Friends of Tansley Schools Committee.
“Lots of Fairtrade ingredients were used throughout the day.”
The winner of the bake–off was the reception year group with a recipe for flapjacks which included Fairtrade demerara sugar, Fairtrade golden syrup and Fairtrade cinnamon.
