A SHAKEN mum has spoken of her horror after an opportunistic burglar sneaked in to ransack the family home when a door was unlocked for just seconds.

Lisa Peake was in the bath when she saw an intruder’s shadow flit across the landing as her children were in bed – and it is believed they entered while she fetched coal from the garden only yards away.

Her nightmare could happen to anyone and comes as police urge people to not give burglars an easy ride.

“All I’d say to people is be vigilant in everything you’re doing. You’ve almost got to think like a criminal,” said Lisa.

The Derbyshire Times has been on operations with local police for a special feature to show the heart-breaking impact burglary can have on its victims and promote crime prevention.
