A retired teacher had a date with royalty recently as he met the Queen at Buckingham Palace.
Ted Grey, who worked at Shirebrook School from 1960 to 1991, had been awarded the Churchill Travelling Fellowship for organising the unique expedition to Arctic Norway.
And to mark the 50th anniversary of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust, he was invited to London to meet the Queen.
Ted said: “I only got to speak to her for about 15 seconds because there was about 300 of us and she asked about how I got the Fellowship.
“I told her it was her mother who presented it to me all those years ago, and she gave me a genuine smile, which was really nice.
“It was very nice to meet her and she was very pleasant.”
