Inquest opened into death of Chesterfield man Darren Broadbent

The inquest into the death of Chesterfield man Darren Broadbent has been opened.

Mr Broadbent, of Grindlow Avenue, Boythorpe, was found dead in a flat at Thorntree Court, Grangewood, on the morning of Monday, August 1.

A murder investigation has since been launched.

Speaking at the inquest at Chesterfield Coroner’s Court on Friday (August 12), Detective Constable Barry Hall, of the East Midlands Special Operations Unit major crime branch, said: “At 8.45am on Monday August 1, the police were called to Thorntree Court, Birchwood Crescent, in Chesterfield. When the officers attended the flat there was a body of the deceased male, later identified as Darren Paul Broadbent.”

A provisional cause of death has been withheld for the time being while further tests are carried out.

Senior coroner for Derbyshire, Robert Hunter, adjourned the inquest until criminal proceedings are concluded.

Jaiden Browne-Evans, 18, of Beaver Hill, Sheffield and a 15-year-old boy from Sheffield have both been charged with Mr Broadbent’s murder and have been remanded in custody. Susan Shaw, 44, of Birchwood Crescent, Chesterfield, is charged with conspiracy to commit to robbery and has also been remanded in custody.
