Images released to ID dead cyclist after Dronfield crash

Derbyshire police have released a series of images in an effort for the public to help identify a mystery cyclist who tragically died in a road crash.

Despite witness appeals for the public to help identify the man who died after the collision with a Citroen C3 on the A61 Dronfield bypass about 3.20pm, on Thursday, July 31, no one has come forward to identify him.

Pictures include an EVO-fit description of the man, the type of bike he was riding and the helmet and shoes that he was wearing which can be seen in full on the slideshow with this story.

Kerry Priest said: “I find this very sad, surely someone will be missing him.”

Kelsey Michelle Darby said: “Someone has got to be missing this guy in their family though surely? Why hasn’t he been reported as a missing person yet?”

Marie Catherine England said: “It’s awful to think of this man not being missed, but, if he’s unmarried with parents deceased and no kids? Only a neighbour or friend would notice if he’s not very social it could be a while.”

Polly Kennelly said: “It’s very sad that no one has come forward to name this man ....hopefully someone will but until then my he rest in peace.”

Despite repeated appeals for potential relatives, friends and work colleagues to come forward to help identify the fatal crash casualty, his identity still remains a mystery.

The dead man is described as white, 55 to 65-years-old, 5ft 6ins to 5ft 8ins tall with short, light brown hair.

He had no tattoos but had a small scar to his abdomen.

He was wearing black Lycra shorts and red cycling shoes and was riding a black and yellow Carrera TDF bicycle.

The cyclist suffered serious head injuries and was taken by air ambulance to the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield where he later died.

He was also wearing a white t-shirt which said Barnsley Metrodome Triathlon 1990 and there was a sticker on the back of his helmet that said Friar Tuck Triathlon 2002 with the race number 100.

Police believe this suggests he may have been active in taking part in triathlons at some point.

Anyone with information on the identity of the man should call Derbyshire police on 101 quoting incident 451 of July 31.
