Hot spell hits Chatsworth fountains

FAMOUS fountains at Chatsworth House are running dry as hot weather sparks a ration.

While summer revellers frolic in the sun, a lack of rain during June and July means the estate’s water supplies are running very low.

And because garden water features rely on the lakes above Chatsworth, the emporer fountain and cascade will now only operate for visitors from 12-1pm and 2-4pm.

“We apologise for the inconvenience and hope that visitors will still be able to enjoy the garden and view the features during the specified times”, said a spokesman.

The measures kicked in last Thursday.

From the end of February, up until last week, the estate reported just over six inches of rain had fallen, compared with more than nine last year.
