BIG-HEARTED cyclists are gearing up for the Derbyshire Times and Polaris 50mile charity bike ride for Chesterfield’s Ashgate Hospice and it is not too late for others to enter.

The Flagg Challenge will roll out from the hospice on Ashgate Road, from 9.30am, on July 22, and wend its way through countryside to Flagg and around the Peak District before returning.

Those taking part, who will be raising hundreds of pounds in sponsor money, will get a Polaris bikewear goody bag, be entered into a raffle to win one of five Sky’s the Limit Tour de France books and will be treated to a free cup of soup and a roll. The three top fundraisers will receive Polaris bikewear gift vouchers.

Derbyshire Times editor James Mitchinson, who is joining reporter Jon Cooper on the ride, said: “The hospice does such a fantastic job and touches so many people’s lives that we have been delighted to join forces with Polaris, of Dronfield, to give cyclists an opportunity to support them.”

The route includes marshals and no time limit. For entry and sponsor forms and a map contact the hospice fundraising department on (01246) 567250 or email emily.evans@ashgatehospice.nhs.uk. Entry costs £20 per rider.

The paper is making a cash donation to James’ and Jon’s fundraising effort and anyone wishing to sponsor them can contact the newspaper on (01246) 504524 or they can visit www.justgiving.com/Jonathan-Cooper5 for details.
