High Peak residents warned to be flood aware

The organisation is working with residents and partners in Whaley Bridge, Hayfield, Glossop and Castleton to ensure that local people and tourists are aware of the signs of flooding and how to respond if flooding is expected.

Communities in the High Peak are at high risk from flash flooding, which occurs as a result of intense rainfall, creating fast-flowing water which can be extremely destructive, the Environment Agency said.

Lynsey Cottle, Community Engagement Officer, said: “We have been working with local people and partners to produce a community flood plan for the area, detailing how to spot the signs of flooding and what to do if flooding is expected.

“The key thing is for people to know the signs that flooding is expected, for example heavy rain and severe weather reports, not to walk or drive through flood water and to plan where they will go if they are caught in a flash flood.”
