High Peak leader launches petition against touts

High Peak Borough Council leader Cllr Caitlin Bisknell has written to every rugby club in High Peak to urge their members to sign Labour’s petition to protect Rugby World Cup tickets, which go on sale in autumn, from being touted for resale.

The government has refused to designate the 2015 event of National Significance and make it illegal to resell the tickets for profit, as the last government did for the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.

Cllr Bisknell said: “The rugby world cup is the third largest sporting event in the world and 2.3 million tickets will go on sale later this year. Unless the government acts now large numbers of these tickets will be bought by touts and genuine rugby fans will only get to go if they can pay inflated prices.”
