Heartless thieves target nursery and damage seven-year-old's special trike

The cruel offenders broke into Tibshelf Infant and Nursery School some time between 6pm on Friday, March 17 and the morning of Monday, March 20.

Not only did they damage play equipment inside one of the storage sheds, they also ripped off parts from a trike, which belonged to Jimi Kirk.

His disgusted mum Jessica said: “Jimi has cerebral palsy, a neurological condition which impacts every moment of his life.

“He therefore uses this trike as part of his daily exercises and therapy.

“We’ve managed to salvage the parts they ripped off and are now awaiting a service from the manufacturer to hopefully check it over and deem it safe for Jimi to use.

“This act of barbarity has put part of Jimi’s therapy and enjoyment on hold, it has distressed the children and upset our village as a whole, but the overwhelming support on Facebook has restored my faith in human kindness.”

A fundraising page launched by his mum to help install CCTV at the nursery has already received more than £600 in donations.

A spokesman for Derbyshire Constabulary said: “We would like to speak to anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area over that weekend.”
