Heanor schoolchildren in world record attempt

Youngsters at Coppice Primary School are waiting to hear if they have set a wacky world record for the largest number of people making models from Play-Doh at the same time.

More than 110 youngsters from the the Roper Avenue school and nursery were joined by their parents, police, firefighters and community figures for the challenge where they were each given a ball of the modelling doh, with people and even building being crafted. They joined more than 200 other schools from across the world in the attempt to set the Guinness World Record, which officials are now varifying.

‘Dough Disco’ is part of the children’s daily learning at Coppice Primary School and is an activity designed to help children develop fine motor skills preparing them for writing,” said Kirsty Harrison, EYFS co-ordinator,

“The children look forward to this every day and were very excited to take part in this world record attempt! We were joined by Alistair Patrick and three colleagues from Heanor Fire Station, local minister David Howe and Community Police officer Vicki Alison Seaton, headteacher added “It is always heartening to see the community rally together to support the work of the school.”

Lots of fun was had by everyone! The school would like to offer a big Thank you to everyone who took part.
