Heanor library set to open temp base
The council is leasing a disused shop in Ray Street which will open from Monday, June 16, as a temporary library until a new purpose-built one opens in March next year.
The shop is the former camping shop, Weekend Leisure
Plans were approved for a new £890,000 r building to replace the 1950s unsafe wooden structure in Ilkeston Road because it could no longer be repaired cost-effectively.

Hide AdDerbyshire county councillor Dave Allen said: “We’re delighted to be able to open a temporary library to continue providing residents with their service while the new one is being built.
“We want to thank library users for bearing with us while we secured these premises in Ray Street and look forward to returning to business as usual next week and until the new building opens.”
Heanor Library has 5,600 registered members with around 750 new members joining every year.
The new building will feature an improved children’s library, a health and wellbeing zone, custom-built area for people to use the council’s free-access computers and communal seating and study areas.

Hide AdIt will also feature a local studies section, audio book loan, self-service points and areas for public events such as author visits.
The project will cost £892,500 – compared to a complete renovation of the existing building which would have cost the council £850,000 plus ongoing maintenance and repair bills.
The temporary library, based at 3 Ray Street, Heanor, DE75 7GE, will be open: Monday 9am to 5pm, Tuesday 9am to 7pm, Wednesday: 9am to 5pm , Thursday 9am to 7pm, Friday: 9am to 5pm and Saturday: 9am to 4pm.
