Dronfield gym owner Matt Sanderson finished with a personal best of ninth place in an iron man triathlon contest at Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire.
Sanderson - who regularly features in Woodlands fitness videos on our website - came first in his age group (35-39.) He competed Challenge Henley - a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and 26.2 mile run - in 9 hours, 43 mins.
Others from Woodlands to complete the gruelling course were James Pryke, Sanderson’s triathlon coaching website partner, in 10 hrs, 17 mins, 20th overall and fifth in his age group (35-39) Helena Straw, 13 hrs, 10 mins Jon Overment 11 hrs, 55 mins and Tim Vaughan, (Half Triathlon) 6 hrs, 31 mins.
Sanderson will also be competing in a second triathlon on December 8 in Australia (Ironman Western Australia.)
He said: “It was a personal best, and I’m pleased because it was a tougher course than previously. My run was 16 minutes quicker than I have done before. Fog hindered the swim and the cycling and there were thunderstorm on the run. Other than that it was pleasant!”
All money Sanderson raises will go Sheffield Children’s Hospital. He has set up a charity donation page at www.justgiving.com/matt-sanderson1
