Hasland Ladies Circle held their Annual General Meeting, with president Margie Hodkin opening the meeting and welcoming the members back after the summer break. The minutes of the previous AGM were read out by Margie and approved by the members. A vote of thanks was given to Sandra Morley for all her work over the past seven years as outings secretary, and she was presented with a bunch of sunflowers in appreciation for all the memorable meals and trips that she had organised.
Treasurer Christine Reagan brought copies of the final accounts for all the members. She was presented with a gift of thanks by Margie Hodkin, the long-standing president of the Ladies Circle.
The meeting closed with a buffet prepared by all the members. Refreshment ladies Margaret White and Barbara Bull served the drinks.
The first speakers of the new programme were Sue Spriggs and Jean Hartley, Pearl 1, Knit 1, who brought a wonderful display of all their craft work, with many items for sale towards their charity effort. Sue and Jean gave an informative and amusing talk on how they have worked together since their retirement as school teachers. They have raised over £7000 for various charities, supporting a different one each year. Their items of craft range from handmade jewellery, brooches, gloves, a variety of scarves made from different fabrics, children’s bracelets, and covered books, to name but a few pieces of their handiwork. Each year they bring in the changes, introducing new styles and fabrics.
Pearl 1, Knit 1 are holding an autumn event at The Gables, 7a Central Drive, Wingerworth, Chesterfield on Wednesday, October 16, from 6pm to 9pm; Saturday, October 19, from 10am to 2pm and Monday, October 21, from 6pm to 9pm.
