HASLAND: Bad weather hits outdoor procession of palms

On Palm Sunday morning, the traditional procession of palms from Churchside Lane into St Paul’s Church at Hasland, was abandoned because of the atrocious conditions under foot. Instead the Rector of Hasland, Fr Malcolm Ainscough, blessed the palm crosses and read the Palm Sunday Gospel in church at the start of the Parish Mass. The dramatic reading of the Passion Gospel involved the congregation taking the part of the crowd and of priests, Jesus was played by Fr Malcolm Ainscough, Judas Iscariot by Stuart Bailey, Ian Basford played Pontius Pilate, and Alison Basford played Pilate’s wife. Narrator was John Grubb. The lessons were read by Pam Cooke and Jane Pemberton, and Rhian Ainscough led the responsorial psalm.
