Guides fly the flag around the world

Four girls from Girlguiding Alfreton District will be spreading the guiding spirit this summer when they represent Guiding and Scouting in Derbyshire at international camps abroad.

Carey Metheringham, 18, from South Wingfield and leader in training with 1st Somercotes Guides, will be part of Girlguiding Midland Region’s contingent attending the Roverway 2012 camp in Finland. The group will camp at Tampare for four nights en route to the main camp at Evo and will return via Stockholm.

Rebecca Wardle and Poppy Latham, both 15, from Swanwick and Young Leaders with 2nd Swanwick Guides and Poppy Beal, 16, from South Normanton and Young Leader with 1st Somercotes Guides, are part of a contingent of a Scout and Guide County-led group at Jamboree Denmark 2012 in Holstebro this week. About 35,000 young people and adults have gathered in friendship, crossing borders of organisations, culture and nationality. It is the largest national Jamboree ever held in Denmark and the first joint Jamboree for all Danish Guides and Scouts.
