A FAMILY has been left devastated after a loving young mum suddenly collapsed and died while she was getting ready to celebrate her parents’s wedding anniversary.
Nurse Liz Hill, 25, of Kirkstone Road, Newbold, Chesterfield, was having a shower at her parents’ home at Calow when her mum Christine and dad Raymond heard a thud and thought she had slipped before they realised she had collapsed and fallen against the bathroom door.
Her partner Mark Pratt arrived with their three year-old daughter Carlie to find two ambulances and he swept the couple’s daughter to a neighbour’s home before rushing back.
He said: “I picked up Carlie from nursery and we’d been in the Peak District and when we arrived at the house there were ambulances and my heart sank. I left Carlie at a friend’s and Ray explained what had happened.
“Paramedics did everything to revive Liz but she was pronounced dead. We have been left devastated.”
Post mortem results have not established an exact cause of death, according to Mark, but tissue samples have been sent off for further tests but it could be another six months before results come back.
Mark added: “Liz was a very caring person and she was always very sociable and enjoyed spending time with friends including colleagues at Chesterfield Royal Hospital and family.
“She was a devoted mum. I told Carlie that her mum is up in the sky with the angels and she’s been very brave.”
Over 400 people attended Liz’s funeral at Calow Parish Church, on Thursday, September 20, and donated £1,400 to be split between Chesterfield Royal Hospital’s Ridgeway ward where Liz worked and Calow Church.
A Chesterfield Royal Hospital spokesman said: “Liz was a wonderful and proud staff nurse and a highly-regarded colleague. Our thoughts, sympathies and sincere condolences go out to Liz’s family.”
