Police are appealing for witnesses after a 91-year-old woman had her handbag snatched outside her house in Wirksworth.

At about 10.45am on Monday, the woman was walking home after going shopping.

As she approached the top of her drive on Chapel Lane a man approached her from behind and grabbed her bag from under her arm. He ran off in the direction of North End.

The victim was uninjured during the incident.

The man is described as of heavy build, wearing a blue hooded top, faded jeans and black walking boots.

Officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or saw a man of that description in the area around the time of the incident.

Anyone with information should call Matlock CID on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
